Modern Housing
Sandpit Place consists of thirty-two houses arranged in a modern take on traditional terraced streets. Three blocks form streets within an existing estate. The streets not only forming new community but better linking those already around them. As well as front courtyard gardens each house has balconies and a quiet, private roof terrace.
Services
The mechanical and electrical services were kept simple, and energy efficient. Each house is independent, negating the need to take space for central plant. High efficiency gas boilers provide instant hot water and meet heating needs kept minimal by the use of low U-value fabric and glazing. Ventilation is continuous, with decentralised mechanical extract ventilation (dMEV) fans in each wet room and kitchen. Photovoltaic (PV) panels cover available flat roofs to provide electricity and further reduce the carbon footprint of the scheme.
